Founder of Healthy Consumer Physical Therapy | Graston Technique Certified | Certified Pilates Instructor | GYROTONIC® Trainer
Chris Sovey, DPT, RN, BSN is all about empowering people with chronic pain, hypermobility, or Ehlers-Danlos syndrome to reclaim stability in life and joy in movement.
Dr. Chris Sovey initially began his studies to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Michigan State University. After passing his nursing boards, he realized he wanted to develop longer-term relationships with patients who were suffering despite receiving the standard medical care. He went back to school to get his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Andrews University.
As his Physical Therapy career progressed, Dr. Chris began seeing large numbers of patients with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), Hypermobile Spectrum Disorder (HSD), and Chronic pain conditions such as Fibromyalgia and Central Sensitization Syndrome.
That’s why he decided to open his own private practice, Healthy Consumer Physical Therapy (HCPT) in Lansing, Michigan to help this often overlooked group of people. His favorite part about being a physical therapist for these struggling patients is having the rare opportunity to watch them transform out of suffering and into their best lives.
In 2022, Dr. Chris was diagnosed with an injury that resulted in significant chronic pain, dysautonomias, and pages of neurological symptoms at the time. After recovering from this injury, Dr. Chris experienced a renewed interest in helping his patients. This came through a deeper sense of empathy and compassion to help those suffering with extensive pain or loss of function.
Dr. Chris gets good results from these types of conditions because he takes a holistic approach of treating the whole person, instead of individual body parts.
So far, 95% of Chris’ hypermobile patients have regained function or made improvements in their day-to-day lives. You can see several video testimonials on other pages of our website. Chris has used Pilates and GYROTONIC in his own life to rehabilitate from several injuries in the past.
In his free time, he likes playing guitar, writing music and singing (he’s a musician), reading, and learning about business and marketing. He also has a passion for Pilates, building his YouTube channel, and learning about technology. Chris has a loving wife and son, who he adores very much.
